Father's Day: Beard and Shaving Sets
Sunday June 18th
Celebrating Father's Day
The origin of Father's Day goes back to antiquity, on Saint Joseph's Day (19 March), the father of Jesus. This date will go through the centuries, and will be preserved in particular by the Catholics. So much for history.
It was another date that was actually chosen to celebrate Father's Day. Although Mother's Day was made official at the end of the Second World War, there was no Father's Day until the early 1900s. An American schoolteacher chose one day to honour her father for raising her and her siblings despite the absence of their deceased mother. The date initially chosen, her father's birthday, was changed for logistical reasons to the third Sunday in June. The holiday was then commercially promoted for all dads and eventually established as an American bank holidays.
What about France? A lighter brand is going to use the American bank holidays to promote its lighters for fathers. The current government will make Father's Day official two years after having done so for Mother's Day.
